In Plato’s Greece the pursuit of pure excellence, called Arête, was the ultimate virtue. It's every bit as relevant today.
5 Eagles Leadership started as a leadership discussion among five retired US Army colonels who were working in public, private, and nonprofit sectors. These leaders found that the leadership skills learned over their careers in the military directly led to success in the civilian world, and that most of what they focused on as leaders in uniform was highly transferable to the private sector.
Conceived as a leadership offsite for corporate leaders, 5 Eagles morphed into a range of leadership programs to help leaders at all levels grow into their best selves.
We distilled our leadership lessons into five principles we encourage leaders to follow:
Our roster of Eagles has grown beyond the original five and now include leaders from USMC, US Navy, Special Operations, Coast Guard, US Air Force, and the US Army.
Eagles are available for coaching, keynote address, workshops, and advising roles.
Arête founder, Bob Dixon, retired in 2020 after 30 years of military service. He has served as a leader, a planner, a strategist, a manager, a thought leader, a chief executive, and a leader of change.
His most rewarding responsibility as a leader has been to serve as a coach, teacher, and mentor to hundreds of leaders who went on to greater leadership roles.
With advanced degrees in physics, management, operations, and strategy, Bob is a lifelong learner with a proven track record of applying theory to real-world application. As one of the Army’s “Jedi Knights” Bob became an expert at applying systems thinking, design, and operational planning to complex problems to help address some of the nation’s toughest national security challenges.
After living a nomadic life as a military brat and a soldier, Bob made Tampa his hometown. The fact that this coincided with national championships for the Bucs and the Lightning, a pennant for the Rays, and a conference championship for the Rowdies is purely coincidental.
In Plato’s Greece the pursuit of pure excellence, called Arête, was the ultimate virtue. Arête isn’t limited to one area of life, but excellence in life itself. It indicates a respect for the wholeness or oneness of life, and that improving expertise in a singular area at the expense of all others limits overall growth.
This is the approach Arête Strategic Consulting takes in helping clients pursue their goals. Our mission is to help you achieve your vision by developing excellence throughout your company: visionary leaders pursuing the right strategy produce amazing results.
By offering a range of services including trusted advisor, executive coaching, strategic workshops, leadership development programs, and strategy formulation and implementation programs, Arête helps companies and their leaders be their very best.
